Dentures Fort Worth, TX
Here at Del Mar Dental we offer practical and durable dentures that will serve you for a long time.
Dentures are removable dental implants that are used to fill up empty gaps if you have lost teeth in one way or the other. Empty gaps in your mouth cause bone loss and misplacement of other teeth in your mouth. After a while, most of your dental structures start collapsing, and your mouth becomes disfigured. Dentures are used to avoid this collapse and also provide replacement teeth.
Dentures are either partial or complete. Partial dentures are used to fill up just a section of the dental structure that is empty, while complete dentures are used when most of the teeth on a jaw have been lost.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used to fill up gaps left when a couple of teeth are lost. Our dentist will simply take an impression of the gap, and get a partial denture made for you. Partial dentures do not have an acrylic base. They are fitted on the natural teeth on either side of the gap.
You can also have dental implants under partial dentures. The implants prevent bone loss and misplacement of the rest of the teeth. Partial dentures are a good alternative for people who do not want permanent dental bridges and dental crowns.
If there are no dental implants under your partial dentures, your jawbone will continue to shrink, although not very rapidly. You will need to get the dentures realigned regularly to ensure they fit on tightly.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are necessary if you have lost all your teeth. You could lose all of your teeth in an accident or as a result of aging. If only one or a few teeth remain on the jaw, they are usually extracted so that the dentures can fit.
Complete dentures are used to avoid the rapid shrinking of your jaw bone and improve your cosmetic appearance. However, dentures cannot completely stop jaw bone shrinking. As such, the dentures become loose after wearing them for a while. You need to have them realigned so that they can fit properly.
Our dentist will place complete dentures on your gums once they have healed properly. If they haven’t healed, you may have to make do with temporary dentures until they heal. Our dentist will then have a complete denture custom-made for you.
Complete dentures are attached to your gums. They are made with an acrylic base, that is colored to look like flesh, that adheres to your gums. The upper denture has a base that covers and adheres to the palate.
